Fiat Manual Turns Automatic
Fiat will use a new generation of robotised gearbox called Comfort-matic in its Ducato commectial range ealry next year.
Technically the gearbox is called MTA (Manual Transmission Automated) and consists of a traditional mechanical gearbox on which the manual leverage is replaced by an actuator that is electronically controlled by a Transmission Control Unit.
In Manual mode the driver can choose the ratio required by gear lever on the dash but without having users and motorhome owners, is as economical as the current manual transmission.
